Attendance

Attendance Matters at Mountain Creek Middle School

We want you here—every day, every class—so you can make the most of your learning opportunities! Being present at school helps you connect with friends, stay on track, and build a brighter future.

What You Need to Know:

  • Attend Every Day: Utah law requires daily attendance. If you need to miss school, make sure a parent or medical professional provides a written excuse.
  • Stay on Track: Missing 5 or more school days or 35+ class periods will start truancy tracking, so keep us in the loop!
  • Make Up Work: You’re responsible for catching up on missed assignments. Check with your teachers and follow the school’s make-up policy.

Arriving Late?

  • Less than 15 minutes: Head straight to class and you’ll be marked tardy. If you have a note, drop it off at the attendance office.
  • More than 15 minutes: Check in at the attendance office with a parent note or phone call.

Need to Leave Early?

  • Have a parent/guardian call the school. After signing out in the attendance office, meet your parent outside.

Educational Leave:
Planning a trip? You may take up to 10 days of educational leave per year. Have your parent contact the attendance office at least three days in advance and fill out the appropriate form.

Home and Hospital:
If you need to be out of school long-term due to illness, a teacher can visit you at home. Ask your parent to contact student services and complete the required form with your doctor.

Feeling Sick?
Let your teacher know and visit the attendance office. You can rest in the sick room for up to 10 minutes or have a parent pick you up if needed.

Be On Time:
Arriving on time helps everyone learn! Multiple tardies or “W” (way late) marks can affect your record and citizenship grade.

Stay in Class:
Always be where you’re supposed to be. Skipping class (“sluffing”) or leaving without permission can lead to consequences.

Withdrawing?
If you move, visit the attendance office to complete the withdrawal process and tie up any loose ends.

Your attendance is key to your success! If you have questions or need help with any attendance-related issue, the attendance office is here to support you. How can I help you encourage great attendance in your classroom?
